The Heyflow software offers you the easy way to make your Heyflow clickflow available on your custom domain.
Before you can start using it, the following two requirements must be met:
- You need a domain from one of the many providers (e.g. Namecheap.com, Strato.de, etc.)
- You need to publish your Heyflow-Clickflow. This is easily done via the tab "Publish" and clicking the corresponding button "Publish my flow".
After you have fulfilled these two requirements, we can start together.
Note: As third-party websites and domains are provided, this guide uses a selected third-party provider, in our case namecheap.com. Of course, you can choose any provider, just remember that the choice of provider's words may differ from your provider's choice of words.
Step 1: Third-Party DNS Setting
Log in to the customer account of your hosting provider and navigate to the DNS settings. There you should see an image similar to this:
Figure 1: Dashboard of your hosting provider
The tabular representation of the host records is important for you. The terms "Type", "Host" and "Value" vary from provider to provider, don't let this put you off. Other providers should use at least similar terms so that you can find your way around easily.
Step 2: Preparation Heyflow-Clickflow
Now that we have found the hosting provider's settings that are important for us, we can switch to the Heyflow software and your Clickflow. Please make sure again that your flow is online by clicking "Publish my flow" in the "Publish" tab as shown in the picture:
Figure 2: Publish-Section
Now you can switch to the "Settings" tab and connect your domain with Heyflow by clicking on "Domain". Just type in your domain URL where the Heyflow Clickflow should be accessed through and click on "Add domain" as shown in the example.
Figure 3: Domain Connect in the Heyflow App
Now you should see a similar picture as shown below. The error messages (orange and red) are completely normal, as we have not yet established the connection to the domain we want to add. However, you can see the parameters that are important to us ("Host", "Entry" and "Required Data"), which only need to be transferred to the DNS settings of our host provider from step 1.
Figure 4: Domain Connect in the Heyflow App
Step 3: Transferring the DNS parameters from Heyflow to the hosting provider
First of all, go back to the DNS settings of your hosting provider and the display shown in Figure 1. By clicking on "Add domain" you can now create new entries and transfer the parameters from the Heyflow software (Figure 4). You can see that in our example with namecheap.com, "Entry" in Heyflow is inserted as "Type" in neamcheap.com and the same applies to the parameters "Host" and "Required Data" (Figure 5).
After accepting the parameters, it should look something like this within your DNS settings:
Figure 5: Domain Provider
After you have successfully transferred the entries, you can check whether the values match by clicking on "Check" in the Heyflow software. If all values are correct, you can now connect the domain by clicking on the “Connect” button.
Note: Please note that depending on your choice of hosting provider, successful activation of the connection may take up to 48 hours.
Figure 6: Domain Connect in the Heyflow App
Congratulations You have now successfully connected your self chosen domain to your Heyflow-Clickflow! Went easier than I thought at the beginning, didn't it?
Step 4: Connect more subdomains with your Heyflow-Clickflow
Additionally you can connect subdomains, e.g. clickflow.your-domain.de with your Heyflow-Clickflows.
This step is almost identical to steps 1-3, you simply click on "Add domain" and insert your desired subdomain. In our example (beta.billy-goatscaping.com). You will quickly notice that the newly generated parameters are identical to those previously transferred. Only one of the newly generated entries is not identical as you can see in the following figure (host = beta). The host is identical with the selected subdomain (beta).
Figure 7: Domain Connect in the Heyflow App
Now you only need to transfer the new parameter (CNAME-Entry) into the DNS settings of your hosting provider and then you have connected the new subdomain.
Figure 8: Domain Provider
After you have successfully transferred the new entries, you can check whether your website has been successfully connected by clicking on "Check" in the Heyflow software.
Note: Please note that depending on the choice of your hosting provider, the successful activation of the connection may take up to 48 hours.
Congratulations, after a few clicks you have now connected your second domain (or subdomain) with Heyflow!
